Art Manifestation ‘Rondom Waalkens’

In april 2017 it was 10 years ago since the farmer and gallery owner Albert Waalkens died. This is the occasion to remember the meaning of this remarkable 'Groninger', the farmer, who in the turbulent 1960s was figurehead and catalyst for the arts in Finsterwolde, Groningen and the Nehterlands. In 2000 I spent two months as a resident at his gallery, after which Carrie de Swaan made the film 'Tracks in the flats' in the nearby Dollard. I have now been invited to come back to this special place to realise a large scale land-art project. On the day of the Art Manifestation I will do a performance, working with app 80 tons of very rough local clay, straight from the ground.

Three Dutch artists will create a land-art artwork in the land around Gallery Waalkens: Merijn Vrij, Marc van Vliet and Alexandra Engelfriet

15.00 uur   Opening by Kees van Twist.

16.00 uur

  • Performance byAlexandra Engelfriet
  • Viewing of Merijn Vrij's artwork

17.00 uur

  • Presentation by Marc van Vliet after which the viewing of his artwork.

20.45 uur

  • Première of the documentary about Albert Waalkens ‘Farmer between art and grain’.
If you want to be present at the premiere please reserve a seat through the website.

After June 17th you can visit the land-art artworks on saturday- and sunday afternoons from June 18th until September 10th.
